Privacy Policy

HappensNightly was built with one belief: your sleep and health data should belong to you, period. This policy explains what data the app touches, where it stays, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

The short version

HealthKit data

With your permission, HappensNightly reads Sleep Analysis (bedtime, wake time, sleep stages) from Apple Health on your iPhone. No other health data is accessed.

HappensNightly requests read-only access. It cannot, and does not, write any data back to Apple Health. You can revoke this access at any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → HappensNightly.

Journal entries

When you log a sleep quality, workout, caffeine intake, screen time, or morning note, that entry is saved on your iPhone using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults). Entries do not leave your device unless you choose to export them.

The Export feature creates a JSON file you control. The Import feature reads a file you choose. Neither feature sends data anywhere.

Manual sleep entries

If you manually enter a sleep night (for example, on a day you forgot to wear your Apple Watch), that entry is stored locally on your iPhone in the same way as journal entries. Manually-entered sleep is never written to Apple Health — your Health app continues to reflect only what Apple's own sensors and other apps recorded.

Manual entries are clearly labeled in the app (with a pencil icon on the chart and a "Manually entered" badge in the detail view) so you can always tell measured sleep apart from estimates. They are included when you Export your journal so you can move them between devices.

Notifications

If you enable Bedtime Reminders, your iPhone schedules a local notification using the time you've configured. Notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely by iOS on your device — HappensNightly does not use push notifications or any remote notification service.

Analytics and tracking

None. HappensNightly does not include any analytics SDK, crash reporter, advertising identifier, marketing pixel, or third-party telemetry. We do not know when you open the app, what you do in it, or whether you're using it at all.

Children

HappensNightly is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone of any age.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version here. Material changes will also be announced in an in-app release note.
